O my god, it just won´t stop snowing!

Most snow Trondheim´s seen in April since records began, according to some sources. My sources are mostly hearsay and chitchat. But who needs sources anyway – there are snow drifts one metre high outside my apartment and we’ve been dumped upon for over a week now.

So it’s easy to see why Norwegians make such good skiers. Last week I assisted on a shoot of Petter Northug for Rosenborg Football club. He is the reigning world champion across various distances and was virtually untouchable at the recent world cup in Oslo. For me he is every bit as much of a world beater as Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps. Cross country skiing is not as widely viewed as athletics perhaps, but in ‘wintery’ countries it is passionately supported by all ages and Petter is undoubtedlt the biggest celebrity in Scandinavia.

We only had half an hour with Petter at a winter camp in Meråker, where he participating in Red Bull scheme to train aspiring young skiers. He was a genuinely nice bloke, supporting Rosenborg football club by professing his passion for football – see poster above. The Red Bull guys were jobsworths though, pulling him out of the shoot with 5 minutes to go.

They had some great equipment though, and a couple of them showed me some awesome footage from a helicopter, zooming down over the tracks that were being ploughed through the mountainside for the skiers. Man those guys get some great material – check out the Illume website for more
